Smart Steps You Can Make Towards a Healthier Lifestyle in the New Year

It’s a new year and with it comes new chances to better ourselves! I know I let go of my exercise habits and clean eating at the end of last year and am excited for a fresh start. When it comes to living a healthy and active lifestyle there are a number of things that make you happy. Eating well and exercising with your friends/partner/spouse are just a couple of the ways that can improve your mood instantly.

If you’re looking for a healthy mind and body then you might need to make a few more important changes to your daily habits. Whether you’re taking your healthcare provider’s advice more seriously or you’re clearing your schedule to have some much needed me time, there are many ways that you can prioritize your health right now and began the new year on the right track.

    Take Your Healthcare Seriously

Even if you drink a green smoothie every morning and go for an hour jog, it doesn’t mean you are well prepared when it comes to your health. Of course you are taking several steps towards a more positive life, but you need to be well equipped in other ways. Look into how to enroll in CHIP and you will be able to see how their healthcare services can benefit you and your family, especially if there are little ones around. Being covered by a good healthcare provider will give you the best possible chance in getting healthy, remaining in good health, and fight off any bugs that come across your path.

    Quit Bad Habits

A healthy lifestyle isn’t always about eating well and exercising, it is also about monitoring your bad habits. If you tend to drinks, smoke or do drugs, then it’s certainly time to kick these bad habits. I won’t sit here and say I don’t ever drink – but I definitely drink in moderation. The older I get the more I cringe thinking about hangovers or the mere thought of shots – bleh! How I survived in college I will never know.

Don’t Be Afraid to Do Nothing

In the modern day it is trendy to be busy all the time. Feeling that exorbitant amount of pressure on your shoulders to fill up your schedule with work events and social gatherings can be pretty exhausting. When you aren’t getting enough time to yourself it can start to take a serious toll on your health – mentally and physically. Now and again it is absolutely fine to do absolutely nothing, especially if you have been run off your feet in the recent weeks. Don’t be afraid to say no and moreover, don’t feel bad about it!

    Focus on Your Diet

When it comes to living a healthier lifestyle, this can only be achieved if you’re serious about your diet or the changes you’re wanting to make. For dietary goals, make sure you are incorporating plenty of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats into your meals everyday. We just started up the Keto diet again which is plum full of healthy fats but slim on carbs. I do miss my carbs but am excited to see the overall changes in my body. On the other hand, don’t feel like you need to restrict yourself of the exciting foods in your life, but alternately try to make healthy choices whenever possible. This means being prepared with your meals as much as you can (I’m working on this!), whether you’re packing a lunch for work or trying out a tasty dish for the first time each week.

Everyone is always hoping to have a healthier lifestyle, not only for themselves but for loved ones or their families too. Health is a precious thing – you never truly appreciate it until it’s gone. MANY of my patients have told me that! So take their advice and protect your health now! Whether you’re quitting bad habits or you’re changing up your diet, there are so many different improvements you can make, big and small. It’s time to take control of your lifestyle again so that you can start feeling the best you can possibly feel – I’m doing it and I encourage you to join me!

What are some of the goals you have for this year? Let me know!
